Making an Impact: “Using Your Business for Good” by Dalya Farah

by | Jul 12, 2022

Everyone leaves an impact on the world around them. Everyone makes an impression that can make a difference in the lives of others. Some make great big impressions that change the course of human history while others change one or two lives. No matter how big or seemingly small, everyone leaves their mark on the world. This means that no person is insignificant and everyone should have a chance at freedom and independence.

At Farah & Farah, we truly and unapologetically believe that we have an obligation to help those in need around us. We are compelled to make a difference in our communities and make an impact for good. Through numerous financial donations, partnerships with charitable organizations, and a strong moral obligation to do good and be good, we strive to leave the world better than we found it.

One of the greatest causes we have found to support here in Jax is Rethreaded. We wanted to take a minute and highlight all the different ways our team has been blessed while blessing others through this organization and what your team can do right now to make a big impact.

Leading by Example

We have a moral obligation to give back to the communities in which we live.” – Eddie Farah

Giving back to the community is always a choice that is best shown rather than said. At Farah & Farah, we are honored to get personally involved in making a positive difference in the world and lead by example. We believe that personal involvement is a moral obligation to create positive change and takes commitment and deserves dedication. Being personally involved means that you take on the responsibility of doing good things.

Leading by example in the firm that my Dad and uncle built and using our business to benefit our community is more than just a one-time act of charity. In order to make a lasting positive impact, you must commit to continually strive for the benefit of others. While singular acts of goodness are wonderful ways to make a small impact, making an enduring and progressive impact requires more dedication.

One of the ways that we have found most effective in using our business to make a positive impact is by being personally involved with local organizations like Rethreaded. Getting in touch with the incredible people that are already making a difference in their community is one of the best ways to get our entire team involved in making an impact. That is why we put forth a great effort to visit, work with, donate to, and support these organizations.

Farah & Farah is proud to partner with such an incredible organization that is saving lives and helping restore hope for so many women. Through our partnership with Rethreaded, we have encouraged involvement throughout our organization and seen firsthand how this makes a profound impact both ways. Through several levels of personal involvement with Rethreaded and other organizations, Farah & Farah feels personally connected to the remarkable work that Rethreaded is doing in the lives of survivors of human trafficking.

Our Relationship with Rethreaded

At Farah & Farah, we are honored to work closely with Rethreaded on many levels of impact. We unequivocally stand behind the work this organization is doing to renew hope, reignite dreams, and release the potential for survivors of human trafficking. We believe that everyone deserves dignity and respect. That is why we are humbled and honored to be a part of such an important mission by joining forces with Rethreaded. Our involvement with Rethreaded is hands down one of the most rewarding and impactful ways that we use our business for good and give back to our community.

There are several ways that we get involved with the work that the team at Rethreaded is doing for the survivors of human trafficking. We work directly with Rethreaded leadership to increase awareness of their mission and the worthy cause they are fighting. At Farah & Farah, we believe that everyone has a role to play in making a positive difference. Some of the ways we have partnered with Rethreaded can be replicated by others so they too can have an impact. We understand not every business leader is in a position to be a sponsor of events like Retheaded’s annual Mukti Gala, but everyone can do something

Here is how we have gotten personally involved with aiding Rethreaded in their mission of hope for survivors of human trafficking:

Purchasing Gifts from the Rethreaded Store

This is one of the easiest ways to contribute to the unbelievable impact that Rethreaded is making. By purchasing gifts for holidays, birthdays, or “just thinking about you” gifts, you are enabling Rethreaded to continue the wonderful work that they do. These are gifts that make a difference and become much more important because of the stories behind them. We love the gifts that we have purchased from their online store and whole-heartedly recommend them to as many people as we can.

Behind every amazing gift is a unique story of survival, a story of strength, and a story of hope. These gifts are so much more than beautiful handiwork. They are important and have a greater purpose behind them. My Dad, Eddie, and Uncle Chuck have purchased the upcycled leather journals for every member of the staff at Farah & Farah, and numerous gifts for giveaways and holidays.

Purchasing gifts that have more impact and stories behind them is part of a conscious effort to be mindful about where we purchase. We know that when we choose to use our business for good, it means that where we spend our money matters. The intentionality behind who we partner with and how to give back to our community is not a foundationless decision, but a conscious choice to be particular with our support. We completely believe in the work and message of Rethreaded and choose to stand with them by making gift purchases.

Purchasing Corporate Gifts That Make a Positive Impact

“When you support Rethreaded, you help remove the barriers for survivors of human trafficking as they rebuild their lives. Each purchase directly affects the lives of survivors and helps them gain skills, get job training, get access to counseling, and put the pieces of their lives back together.” – Rethreaded

Another way that Farah & Farah has found to use our business for good is through purchasing Rethreaded’s Corporate Gifts of Hope. This is an incredibly impactful way to support their mission and send a truly memorable gift at the same time. Because each gift makes a difference, purchasing corporate gifts at-scale makes all the more impact. We love the corporate gifts that we have purchased from Rethreaded because we know that they have significance behind them and are actually serving a higher purpose. By purchasing journals, office gifts for holidays, and placing a larger order through the store at Rethreaded, we know that we are doing something right for survivors of human trafficking.

Purchasing a single gift or several gifts is one way to encourage corporate philanthropy. As part of our moral obligation to give back to the communities in which we live, Farah & Farah has chosen to show our support of Rethreaded and other local organizations that we believe in. Giving back to our community through purchasing our office gifts and corporate orders is one way that we put into practice how we approach making a significant impact on the world.

Financial Donations

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” – John Bunyan

Farah & Farah also chooses to use our business charitably by making financial donations. With Rethreaded, every single dollar you give helps survivors of human trafficking so you get to feel a part of their mission of making a real difference. This act truly takes a few minutes and a few clicks of the mouse and is a great way to make donations of any size to Rethreaded.

Though there are many other financial partnerships that Farah & Farah is proud to be a part of, these are just some of the organizations that are near and dear to our hearts. We recognize that financial donations and support are not something that every business can do, but we encourage all that are able to get involved financially with a local organization that you believe in.

Become a Donor

Hosting a Pop-Up Shop for Rethreaded

A really fun aspect we have employed in our corporate giving strategy is hosting pop-up shops for Rethreaded in our downtown Jacksonville offices. This unique opportunity with Rethreaded brings their collection of meaningful and mindful gifts right into our offices so that our employees can purchase them. We love when we host a Rethreaded shop because it gives us an opportunity to share their mission and incredible story of renewal and restoration. Having Rethreaded in our offices is also a way to personally talk with survivors of human trafficking and show them our care and support. We deeply value this face-to-face interaction and the connection we are able to make because of them.

Host an Event

Becoming a “Celebrate Freedom” Sponsor

One of the most exciting ways that Farah & Farah has been able to partner with Rethreaded is by becoming a “Celebrate Freedom” Sponsor of their annual Mukti Gala. This event is a significant celebration, as well as an essential fundraising event for Rethreaded. Our sponsorship was just a small part of the incredible evening.

Why Focus So Much on a Corporate Giving Program?

So, here is the question: Why? Why get involved so extensively with local organizations? Why use your business for good? The answer is simple really: we believe that we should. As citizens of the world, we are obliged to give back to it in any way that we can. We know that everyone makes an impact on the world they live in and we have made a conscious decision to make a positive impact with what we have.

Practical Ways to Get Involved in Your Community

There are infinite ways to get involved in making sure your business is making a positive impact in your community. We encourage everyone to find some way to give back. Here are some practical ways to make a difference:

  • Find local organizations: You do not have to fund an event or start a foundation. Start where you are at and volunteer your time or creative resources with an up-and-running organization you believe in.
  • Donate, don’t discard: When you clean out the garage or closet, instead of throwing items away, donate them to a local shelter. Better yet, buy new items for the sole purpose of donating them.
  • Be intentional: Be mindful of where you spend your money and consider purchasing from an organization or vendor that has meaning behind their products.
  • Get creative: There is no one way to make a positive impact in your community. Get creative in how you help others. Make homemade crafts or rake leaves to raise money for a local shelter, write stories that raise awareness of those in need, create new ideas for generating hope, or even take time to write a thank you letter to local organizations.
  • Don’t settle, do something: We understand that no one person or business can do everything but everyone can do something. The horrors of human trafficking, the injustices of homelessness, or the struggles of those in need are not problems that can be tackled alone. We all have a part to play in doing good and even if it is all we can do, do something to help.

Remember that giving back is a choice. We volunteer, serve, donate, stand with, and support Rethreaded and the other worthwhile organizations because we choose to do good. We have been given much and we believe that much is expected of us in return. No matter how you can make a positive difference in your community, we encourage you to do something.

Everyone makes some kind of impact on the world, what will yours be?
