Florida Just Restored Voting Rights to 1.5 Million People

by | Nov 7, 2018

“I feel like I’m really going somewhere now, because my voice will be heard!”

Florida has approved an amendment that will automatically restore voting rights to more than a million people previously convicted of felonies.

Diana, Rethreaded Retail Sales Floor attendant, was filled with so much joy when we announced that her voting rights had recently been restored!

“I’m so happy. I feel like I’m really headed for big things! Now, I feel like I’m really going somewhere because my voice will be heard!”

There is no federal law that dictates felon voting rights. States have the power to set rules for restoration of rights, and Florida was one of 13 states where felons faced a lifetime ban, needed a governor’s pardon or had to wait an additional amount of time in order to have their voting rights restored. Florida will now automatically restore voting rights to more than one million residents! This includes others on the Rethreaded team who can’t wait to register and vote. This will be the first time for some of our staff.

Online voter registration is available in Florida. Click here if you are registered and need to update or want to start a new registration. Happy voting!
