On September 22, 2025, a 24-year-old mother and her one-year-old child reached out for help while fleeing a domestic sex trafficking situation. With only a short-term hotel room and no resources to extend their stay, they faced the very real risk of returning to harm.
Immediate Response
JSO immediately responded, working alongside advocates and federal partners to ensure the safety of both mother and child. Together, the team coordinated safe housing in another state, secured basic needs, and arranged safe travel. Administrative barriers and transportation challenges arose, but JSO’s direct involvement and persistence helped ensure this family was not left without options.
Starting Fresh
The following day, with support from JSO, Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Marshals, and advocates, the young family safely boarded their flight and were welcomed into a transitional safe home in another state. There, the survivor found not only safety, but dignity: a fresh closet of clothing for herself and her baby, new toys for her child, a pantry stocked with food, and her very first brand-new pair of shoes.
Breaking Generational Cycles of Trauma
This coordinated response did more than resolve an immediate crisis, it altered the trajectory of a family, ensuring safety, stability, and the chance for a child to grow up free from exploitation.
