Threads for Hope; Past, Present, and Future- Future Feature: Janine Sanders

by | Mar 3, 2020

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are honoring women who exemplify what it means to thread hope for the past, present, and future.

Today’s feature is one of our own, Janine Sanders. Janine is an incredible example of what it means to be an empowered woman in our community. She is an amazing mother, hard worker, thoughtful writer, and an incredible friend to all.

Check out her interview below:

Q: For those who don’t know you, briefly describe who you are and your role at Rethreaded:

A: “I am the leather lead for our production department. Part of my job is the responsibility of making sure our machines function correctly, which I love doing. As a person, I am very inquisitive and goal-oriented. I love to get the job done and am very determined to be successful.”

Q: What inspires you?

A: “That would have to be the words, ‘love and forgiveness.’ Those two words mean everything to me. They are a symbol of the individuals that have seen hope in me before I could even see it in myself. They are the people that have provided me with incredible opportunities. I believe love and forgiveness led to hope and they remind me that I am worthy. These words also make me think about being a mother. I’ve received so much love and forgiveness through the process of becoming a mom, which motivates me to give back to others.”

Q: What does it mean to you to pave the way for your daughter?

A: “ (Paving the way) Is very meaningful, fearful and impactful. I think it is the thriving force that doesn’t allow me to give up. I want to protect my daughter from what I experienced. I want to be the best role model I can be. I know I don’t have to be her hero, but I can still be the best version of myself for her. I want her to see all the potential out there. When I think about paving the way for my daughter, I think about this quote my father would always share with me: ‘The world is your oyster now find your pearl.’ I want her to find her pearl and know that her circumstances do not dictate her outcome or future.”

Q: What are your hopes for her and her future?

A: “I want her to be comfortable with her own path and to have no fear of choosing what she loves. My hope is that she will be her authentic self, knowing that choosing a different path then everyone else isn’t a disappointment to me.”

Q: What do you love most about your daughter’s personality?

A: “She’s a character! My daughter is headstrong, persistent, and she doesn’t take no for an answer. She is so smart and intentional; she reads into my soul- always so aware of everything and everyone around her. Ultimately, she loves well and knows what she wants. She’s my perfect match in life.”

Q: What advice would you give women who are raising girls in this day and age?

A: “I was always comparing myself to other moms and like anything in life, things take time. Do what comes naturally- don’t beat yourself up…and don’t be afraid to put your foot down. Reach out if you need help. It can be overwhelming, but that’s when I reach out to my network of people. We can’t do this life alone, but together we can do so much more. ”
