Threads for Hope; Past, Present and Future-Present Feature: Lori Day

by | Mar 4, 2020

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are honoring women who exemplify what it means to thread hope for the past, present, and future.

Today, we want to honor the present generation of women. Lori Day is an incredible woman, who has been involved with Rethreaded for many years. Lori is an amazing advocate for women and does everything she can to create change in our community. She has been the Board President for Hubbard House and has also worked in various corporate roles for companies like Bank of America and EverBankCurrently, she consults with CGI, a tech company, providing insight on client strategies. She also provides personal health coaching via her business, New Day Solutions.

Lori is currently doing incredible work with the Florida Commission for the Status of Women. Her mission is to have a positive influence on those who have the power to create change. We are honored to know and work with Lori and is thrilled that Lori is passionate about walking alongside Rethreaded and our vision as well.

Check out her interview below:

Q: For those who don’t know, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you are involved with Rethreaded?

A: “I have been involved with Rethreaded through different corporate roles. I have worked in banking, corporate philanthropy as well as consulting. I first connected with Kristin Keen through my work with Bank of America. When I met Kristin I was so drawn to her passion for the work she was doing. One of my friends approached me about joining the Circle of Sisters and I said ‘Of course!’. I was so excited to have the opportunity to make an impact as a group. I am also a mom of four. They are between the ages of 14 to 29. I have three girls and one boy. I love that I can raise my son to be a man who respects women. I truly believe that when we, as a community do things to help girls and women in need, that we all succeed.”

Q: What does hope mean to you?

A: “Hope is as joy is to happiness; you can not be happy yet still be full of joy, you can not be in a good circumstance but still, know that hope exists. I think for someone to have hope doesn’t mean that everything is alright right now- but it means things are going to get better. The effort required to get through something difficult is always worth it. When I have hope, the hard stuff isn’t so hard. What gives me hope is other people’s beliefs as well as my own. When I see someone else’s hope, I  can believe it too.”

Q: What are you the proudest of in your life?

A: “I’m proud of the people I have helped; whether, through my work or volunteering, I am proud that people know me as a giver. I am very proud of where I have come given the hurdles I’ve faced. I’m thankful for the people that believed in me before I believed in myself; that is why I give back.”

Q: What makes you excited?

A: “Being involved with a group bigger than myself, and creating change.”

Q: What do you love most about being a woman in business?

A: “It’s really hard to put into words…I think it has to do with being proudly feminine and free. It is about bringing creativity, kindness and perseverance to the table. It’s fun to change the dynamic, and add my point of view. I can add diversity and new points of view, I can be authentic.”

Q: Who inspires you?

A: “There are so many awesome leaders in my life, both men and women. I hope I can honor all of the leaders that have left their fingerprints on me. I want to honor their time and investment. My family also really inspires me. My husband has recently been diagnosed with cancer and his hope is so evident. He knows he can do hard things- he truly amazes me every day. My daughter wants to run for office and in this day and age, I have great respect for that. She wants to change the world, she truly inspires me.”

Q: What advice would you give women who want to do what you do?

A: “Be the best version of yourself that you can be. Find a mentor that you can bounce ideas off of, someone who makes you feel free to be authentic. We all make mistakes and can be goofballs. A leader once told me: ‘you don’t have to earn your seat at the table- it’s already yours.’ We all can take off that veil of perfection.”
